Themes for April

Are you looking to spice up your lessons with some themes for April? Check out these holidays and celebrations that make for excellent themes in the month of April:

April Fool’s Day

The very first of themes for April is April Fool’s Day, which is celebrated on April 1 each year. April Fools’ Day traditions include playing hoaxes or practical jokes on others, often yelling “April Fools!” at the end to clue in the subject of the April Fools’ Day prank. Come up with a fun prank and play it on your students, talk about the best and worst pranks ever, or find out the history of Aril Fool’s Day is this History article.

Easter

Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and another theme for April. According to Christian history, Jesus was crucified on a Friday and rose three days later on Sunday. Easter is held on the first Sunday after the full moon in March, which is why Easter can land anywhere between the 22nd of March and the 25th of April. Get students to learn about Easter by reading this article on Kiddy House or do research about Easter symbols HERE or HERE and give presentations on what they found!

World Health Day 7 April

A possible theme to cover in April is World Health Day. April 7 of each year marks the celebration of World Health Day. Since 1950, the celebration has aimed to create awareness of a specific health theme. Over the past 50 years it has brought to light important health issues such as mental health, maternal and child care, and climate change. The focus in 2021 is, unsurprisingly, on COVID. Get students to talk or write about making healthy choices.

Earth day 22 April

This very important April theme – Earth Day – is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by www.earthday.org . Get students to find out how they can do their part for the environment in this article by National Geographic or these videos about recycling.

Spring

World Book Day 23 April

“World Book and Copyright Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures.” Reading is always a great theme and April is great month for it! I love reading and I want my students to love reading too. Take this day as an opportunity to get students to just read for pleasure, and read something they love. This website has some cool activities too, so be sure to check that out.

And that’s it, some themes for April to cover in your lessons! I hope you’ll use some of these suggestions to spice up your teachings.
