November is my favorite month, because my birthday is November 11! :) And there are many fun things to teach about in November! Here's a list:
1. Elections in the United States
Teach your students about the rules and procedures of this immensely complex way of electing the President! To me, an American history major, this is so interesting! You can do vocabulary lessons about the topic of elections and democracy, reading and listening skills practice about it, and you could get them to speak and write about how they would run an election, of who they would choose, or get them to represent one of the parties!
2. Thanksgiving
Teach your students where the tradition of Thanksgiving comes from by getting them to read of listen to sources on it. I always love doing a part about being thankful: what are they thankful for and why? I get my students to write a letter to someone they are thankful for as well. 3. Native Americans
In line with Thanksgiving, you could teach your students about the Native Americans and their plight. Give them sources to read and listen to, and get them to write and speak about how indigenous people were and are treated all over the world.
3. Veterans Day (Nov 11)
It's a day to honor military veterans in the US, so you could teach your students about honor and the importance of armed forces.
4. Remembrance Day (Nov 11)
This day, also sometimes known as Poppy Day, is similar to Veterans Day, but this one is celebrated in the countries of the Commonwealth, to remember the members of their armed forces that have died in the line of duty.
5. The Fall / Autumn
It's still fall, so if you haven't talked about this season yet, I suggest you incorporate it in your lessons! Teach students fall vocabulary words, and get them to talk or write about what they like and don't like about this season. Check this out to find some cool resources.
