Activities for Saint Patrick’s Day

Are you looking for some fun activities for Saint Patrick’s Day to celebrate this holiday in your lessons? I’ve got just the activities you need to make Saint Patrick’s Day fun and engaging to learn about! Saint Patrick’s Day is all about green and luck and leprechauns and the following activities will help your students get in the spirit:

Saint Patrick’s Day Writing

Getting students to write is always a fun activity and Saint Patrick’s Day has the perfect topics! Ask them:

o Finish the sentence. “I think I’m lucky, because…”

o If you found a pot of gold, what would you do?

o If you found a four-leaf clover, what would you do?

o If you caught a leprechaun and had 3 wishes, what would they be?

Get them to share their responses. Some of them are bound to be hilarious.

Saint Patrick’s Day Word Search and Crossword

One of my activities for Saint Patrick’s Day is the word search. I love getting students to find the vocabulary that has to do with this day. Crossword puzzles are much the same, but why not do both of them? Students enjoy puzzles immensely and love when they get to solve them. Saint Patrick’s Day is no exception.

Saint Patrick’s Day Word Games

Dominoes and memory are two other activities for Saint Patrick’s Day that I love. Students have to find the correct match between the pictures and words. For the dominoes game, it means moving tiles so that they become one long chain of matches, and for memory it means finding matches by turning two tiles at a time over. These games are active and require full body learning.

Saint Patrick’s Day Listening

Another activity is getting students to watch videos about Saint Patrick’s Day’s history. This video from History may be a little harder, but this one by Little Fox is easier. Get them to tell you what they learned from the videos, get them to come up with questions for their classmates and then watch again to answer them, or come up with your own questions they can answer while they watch.

Saint Patrick’s Day Reading

One of the best activities to develop any language is of course reading. Much like the listening activities listed above, it’s great to get students to read over Saint Patrick’s Day. This article by History is great, as well as this one by National Geographic Kids.

And these are my ideas for activities for Saint Patrick’s Day! I hope you feel inspired to try some yourself! Let me know if you have any questions.
